Excited to fly—and ready to do it thoughtfully?

A new drone opens up a world of possibilities. It can also bring a lot of questions: Where can I fly? What should I check? How do I keep the flight safe? How do I get the picture I imagined?

Scott helps you connect those pieces, one step at a time. Whether you’re choosing your first drone, have just unboxed one, or want a better foundation, this is a welcoming place to start.

Learn the flight. Understand the decisions. Create the imagery.

Beginner instruction brings together practical flying, responsible preparation, and the creative skills that make a drone more than a flying camera.

A confident start

Get comfortable with your aircraft, the controls, orientation, takeoffs, and landings. Ask the beginner questions and build thoughtful habits from the start.

FAA rules & airspace

Learn how FAA rules fit your flying, how to research where you can fly, and how airspace authorization works. Scott also introduces the FAA TRUST learning and testing process.

Safety & checklists

Build a practical preflight routine: aircraft and equipment checks, choosing a suitable flying area, spotting hazards, and making sound go/no-go decisions.

Weather, TFRs & NOTAMs

Learn what to check before heading out, how weather affects a flight, and why temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) and aviation notices (NOTAMs) belong in your planning routine.

Drone photography fundamentals

Learn to see the shot: light, composition, exposure, camera settings, and purposeful viewpoints. Start creating photographs you’ll be excited to share.

Cinematic drone videography

Explore smooth flight paths, deliberate gimbal movement, camera settings, and simple shot planning that help turn aerial clips into a visual story.
